Harry Halff Fine Art

Jose Arpa: Painting in the Americas includes works by Jose Arpa y Perea (1858-1952) that demonstrate the brilliant legacy of a Spanish painter who loved the light and people of Texas and Mexico. An original adventurous spirit with a stunning ability to express sunlight on canvas; he was academically trained and already successful in Spain when he came to Mexico in the late 19th century, and then to Texas at the turn of the century. By the time he returned to Spain in 1931, he had painted some of the finest visions of our Southern landscapes. This show is drawn from private collections and most works have not been exhibited in over 90 years. Jose Arpa: Painting in the Americas will remain on view through April 9, 2010.
